E1: MOB: JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Mobile Strategy (Doc ID 2652952.1)

Over the past five years JD Edwards delivered over 90 built for purpose mobile applications for the iOS and Android platforms using Oracle’s Mobile Application Framework (MAF). Our vision was that these applications would meet our customers’ requirements, be highly leveraged, and could be supported for many years. However, based on customer and partner feedback we identified the following:

1. In most cases customers wanted to customize the app to have a different UI or support additional use cases to meet their specific business processes. The desire to customize led customers to pursue the creation of their own built for purpose mobile apps.

2. Customers want to use the same front-end mobile development tool they use for other requirements in their organization. Whether it is Xamarin, Mendix, OutSystems, React, or Oracle’s Visual Builder Cloud Service (VBCS), many of these low code/no code options empower domain experts such as business analysts with limited programming background to build line of business or departmental apps.

3. The phenomenal success of customers and partners creating alternative user interfaces and connecting those to JDE logic and data using the JD Edwards Orchestrator. Now, customers can easily create a JD Edwards web or mobile app that was built outside of JDE but leverages the logic and data within JDE.

These factors have led JD Edwards to a mobile strategy where we encourage customers and partners to leverage their choice of front-end development tool that connects to JD Edwards through orchestrations to develop their own mobile applications. This approach allows flexibility, choice, and control so customers can deliver the right user interface for the use case and the user.

Moving forward, customers and partners can get started with Oracle Technology:

· The JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Orchestrator is a key component of our mobile strategy. It can transform the EnterpriseOne system from a transaction-based system of records into a system that provides a dynamic reflection of your real-time business operations.

· With Oracle Visual Builder you can quickly turn ideas into powerful apps that help run your business. Oracle Visual Builder lets you create and deploy web, mobile, and progressive web interfaces.

· Oracle also supports an iPad application, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne for iPad, which maximizes screen real estate and provides a navigational user interface optimized for the smaller, touch-enabled screen of a tablet. Coupled with form personalization, form extension and other user-defined object capabilities, you can create a tablet-friendly layout to support your mobile needs.

You decide which development tool you want to use. But know that you can get started with Oracle technology:

To support this mobile strategy, JD Edwards provides a learning path focused on instructing customers how to leverage JD Edwards Orchestrator Studio along with Oracle’s Visual Builder Cloud Service (VBCS) to develop their own mobile applications. Developers and non-developers alike can leverage the learning path to gain ideas on how best to meet their mobile application needs. Customers can access the learning paths from LearnJDE Mobile Platform and Solutions found here. Find the link for Getting Started with Visual Builder and Orchestrator for JD Edwards under Resources. It is important to note that customers are not required to use VBCS as the front-end tool. Customers can use the font-end tool of their choosing.
